Here's some additional information regarding some of the offerings at the convergence...
Trade Blanket Ceremony:
This Trade blanket is a Trading space that is a cornucopia of Honor of people, time, earth, Exchange, laughter and abundance. David Leads a modified version of the historic trade blanket tradition. We all come together around a blanket, establish patterns of trade, take a moment to give thanks to the people and the earth and energy around us. Speak our intentions that have a load of fun with our trades. We use a pattern of trading boundaries that create community, honor each person and build a dance of consent and harmony between all. All people are welcome even if you only want to trade a smile. We do ask that we dont bring currency of any kind and any items that are illegal locally. We also ask that people try to be at the blanket during the opening, if you want to participate. Watching quietly and rejoicing with each trade is welcome and encouraged.
Bring anything you have made or have to trade. We have had people offer land, food, handmade items, medicine, services, reiki, message, blessings…..
Hand Dug Earthworks Class and Workshop:
Learn together in a workshop format how to listen and observe to the land and its flow with water and soil. As a group we will plan and implement some shaping the earth in a way that brings more harmony and abundance on the land. David Ahlgren will guide this workshop and offer stories and lessons that nature has shared with him on the topic.
Water Flow Evaluation Walk of the land:
David Ahlgren will guide a group of people through the land looking at how water flows through the land and what nature can teach us regarding harmony and water flow.
Ornamental Permaculture and Food Forest Transitions:
Walk the land at Sahale, learn about the surprising number of “permaculture” plants and attributes found in ornamental and native gardens. Shaelee Evans will share on techniques to transition ornamental landscapes to permaculture retreats, and skills for a beautiful productive garden. Topics include pruning, soil care, plant selection, spacing and planning for plant succession, the ever changing ecology of the garden. Shaelee has 17 years experience designing and tending permaculture gardens on the North Olympic Peninsula in western Washington through her business Integrated Earth Horticulture and studying forestry with Peninsula College.
Local Food Production and Policy
Channeling the abundance of permaculture gardens into usable yummy preserved food before it goes to waste can be a big task. At this session we will be discussing the ins and outs of legal food products, what is needed for a state licenced Food Processing Facility, and some tips on easy to create products that can create income for the farm or homestead. Shaelee Evans will be leading the discussion and speaking from the challenges and successes of running Goodness Tea since 2014.
Permandala Project
Northwest Permaculture board team Tiffany and Shaelee will offer our Permandala visualization tapestry of design principles with an invitation for everyone to craft a petal to add for 2021. The petals are words and images illustrating how these principles are showing up in our life. We will create a prayer flag banner from the petals designed at the 2019 convergence to fly above our expressions this year.
Community Building
What ideas do you have, do we all have, for building community to support each other, load share and become more resilient as a People? Online we have: Zoom meetings, Discord, Slack, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and our website with Directory. Are you on our Newsletter email list? On land we can have more projects on your land you can invite us too, which we would love to document, share and map what's happening where (Mapping Project).
